I grew up in Wainwright on a small farm and graduated from Wainwright High School in 1986. Following that, I attended the University of Calgary for two years, where I met my husband, who was serving in the PPCLI. Our subsequent postings led us to Calgary and then to Edmonton.
As a small-town rural individual, I was elated when my husband was posted to the Battle School here in Wainwright in 2001. Having lived in urban centers previously, both my husband and I were eager to provide our two boys with the opportunity to grow up in rural Alberta. I wanted them to experience the close-knit community and extended family support that I cherished during my own childhood.
In 2007, I joined the Buffalo Trail Public School family as an Educational Assistant, initially at Wainwright Elementary School and later at Wainwright High School. Over the course of 12 years, I witnessed firsthand the exceptional quality of education and the outstanding care provided to all students, regardless of their individual needs or the size of the school. Both of my boys had wonderful experiences attending school in Wainwright, and upon graduating from Wainwright High School, they both chose to follow in their father's footsteps and join the Canadian Armed Forces.
With my house now empty, I decided to embark on a new venture in 2021 and ran for School Board Trustee. I have found immense fulfillment in exploring this other facet of education and am deeply committed to advocating for the significance of Rural Education and the exceptional caliber of students it nurtures.
